This month's featured artist is
ANNE YEATS 1919-2001
She is the daughter of poet William Butler Yeats and niece of the painter, Jack Butler Yeats; but Anne is an artist in her own right, her work having been exhibited very widely in Ireland and abroad and is in public and private collections. She studied in the RHA schools and was the chief stage designer at the Abbey Theatre for many years. She also taught at the Hall School, Monkstown, Co. Dublin.
Our present collection includes:
1. Woman Dreaming - a frighteningly accurate rendition of old age - in browns and greys, gaunt deep set eyes and wickedly bandy legs stretched under a tight skirt. Sitting in a chair. Oil on Canvas
2. Three cherries and an Apple, halved - oil on paper, a lovely gently coloured, dreamy painting, in soft lime greens carefully executed, the background delicately atmospheric.
3. Pebbles - oil on paper, small stones in greys and blacks, under water. Detailed gravel like background, so compelling.
4. Deep Stream - oil on canvas. Her typical underwater view of depths of moving water, stones and leaves. Jack Yeats is said to have given her an annual stipend, so that she could continue to work as an artist.
